Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has announced that India is set to become a global hub for critical minerals, with the forthcoming launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission (CMM). This initiative aims to enhance domestic production, reduce import dependence, and encourage offshore mining auctions. The announcement was made during the 3rd National Mining Ministers’ Conference in Konark, Odisha.
The CMM is designed to strengthen India’s self-reliance in critical minerals essential for various industries, including clean energy technologies, electronics, and defense. By focusing on increasing domestic output and exploring offshore mining opportunities, the mission seeks to secure a stable supply chain for these vital resources.
In addition to the CMM, the government has initiated the auction of 48 critical mineral blocks, with 24 already successfully allotted. This move is expected to attract significant investments and technological advancements in the mining sector, further solidifying India’s position in the global critical minerals market.
These efforts underscore India’s commitment to becoming a key player in the critical minerals sector, ensuring resource security and supporting the nation’s industrial and technological growth.
