The Indian government has approved the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with an investment of ₹16,300 crore, aiming to reduce the country’s dependence on mineral imports and strengthen domestic supply chains. This initiative is crucial for securing key minerals required for renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), semiconductors, defense, and high-tech industries. The mission will focus on exploration, mining, processing, and recycling of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements.
With India’s growing push towards clean energy and industrial self-sufficiency, the NCMM is expected to accelerate domestic mineral production, promote sustainable mining practices, and boost economic growth. The government will also encourage public-private partnerships and international collaborations to secure essential mineral resources. This initiative aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision and is expected to position the country as a key player in the global critical mineral supply chain.
