The Tamil Nadu government is intensifying its efforts to regulate mining activities across the state, aiming to ensure sustainable practices and prevent illegal operations. A key component of this initiative is the comprehensive survey of quarries and mines, utilizing advanced technologies to monitor and manage mining activities effectively.

In a significant move, the Department of Geology and Mining has announced plans to conduct periodic surveys of all quarries and mines within Tamil Nadu. This initiative is designed to track excess mining in leased areas and prevent unauthorized extraction beyond designated boundaries. To achieve this, the department intends to employ drones and various web-based technologies, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of monitoring processes.

The department has also been proactive in preparing District Survey Reports (DSRs) for various districts, including Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, and Kanniyakumari. These reports aim to identify mineral resources and provide detailed information on mining activities within each district. The DSRs serve as valuable tools for assessing the environmental impact of mining and formulating strategies to mitigate adverse effects.

These initiatives underscore the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to balancing economic development with environmental conservation. By leveraging modern technology and comprehensive data collection, the state aims to promote responsible mining practices that safeguard both natural resources and the well-being of its communities.
